How to Mount Cabinets

Tall cabinets can go on the floor, and smaller cabinets can go on tables or stands to showcase items, but some people choose to mount their cabinets to the wall to create a floating cabinet appearance. However, before you drill holes, you must first conduct wall preparations because a heavy cabinet will not remain affixed to a wall without proper support from wall studs.

Instructions

Check the wall for studs where you want to hang the cabinets. Use a wall stud finder, placing it on the wall horizontally. Slide it vertically along the wall and stop when it beeps to indicate a wall stud. Make a small pencil mark to indicate a stud. Repeat this procedure until you have located at least two studs per cabinet.

Hold one cabinet at a time up to the wall, where you made marks. Determine the insertion points for the three-inch screws that will go through the back of the cabinet into the studs. As you hold the cabinet up to the wall, place the level on top of the cabinet, so you hang it evenly.

Drill the screws through the back of the cabinet into the wall studs with a mechanical screwdriver. Drill at least three screws into each stud, so if you have two wall studs per cabinet, use six screws.

Add some weight in the cabinet to ensure it is securely attached. Install the cabinet doors, using the ones with pre-installed hinges. Use the quarter-inch screws to attach the hinges to the outer side of the cabinet side panels. Attach one cabinet door at a time, if the cabinet has two doors.
