How to Refinish Cabinets With Cleaners

Over time, cabinets may become worn or even develop bare spots due to repeated use and age. You do not have to buy expensive refinishing products to restore the look of your cabinets. Refinishing cabinets with cleaners helps repair worn or thin spots on the surface of the wood. The cleaner gets rid of grimy residue, oil or wax buildup, stains and soil. It also restores the luster and shine in the wood grain. Using the correct cleaner replaces the oil in the wood so that it remains attractive and in quality condition for many years.

Instructions

    • 1

Dust the surface of your cabinets well with a dusting tool.

    • 2

Add the boiled linseed oil and gum turpentine to a bucket with a measuring spoon.

    • 3

Turn on the faucet and allow the water to get very hot. Add one gallon of hot water to the bucket.

    • 4

Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands from the heat and the cleaner. Swish the water around to mix the solution.

    • 5

Saturate a cleaning cloth by placing it into the bucket with the cleaning solution. Wring it out well.

    • 6

Wash the wood cabinets thoroughly with the wet cloth. Change the cloth to a clean section once it becomes soiled, or use another wet cloth.

    • 7

Buff the cabinets with a clean, lint-free cloth. Dry them thoroughly as you buff the surface. The linseed oil restores the finish to bare or worn areas. The hot turpentine cleans the rest of the cabinet surfaces of buildup or grimy debris.

Polish the cabinets with your regular furniture polish or a surface wax, if you desire.
