Wooden Tables

• Wooden tables can look like they came straight out of the '40s with the addition of an enamel or Formica top. Look for tables with a red, white or blue top, as those colors were popular during the '40s. The wood can be left natural, or painted white, red or blue. If those colors don't suit the rest of your decor, green or jadeite are also popular retro choices.

Chrome

• Chrome tables were a staple in many 1940s kitchens. Chrome tables with red, white, blue or green Formica or enamel tops are an authentic way to take your kitchen back in time.

Table Cloths

• If you can't find a table with a colored top, a retro-style table cloth is an inexpensive and easy fix. Look for cloths in patterns like plaid and checkers in the classic red, white, blue and green colors.

Do-It-Yourself

• If you can't find what you want, you can create your own 1940s-inspired table. Find a square wooden table in a lighter shade and paint the top in the color of your choice. You can paint the edges of a white table top red, blue or green to add some visual interest. Add a floral border to the top of the table to give it a vintage feel.
