Measure and mark every 4 1/2 inches along one edge of two planks of 1/4-inch lumber cut to 10-by-36 inches. There should be eight marks altogether.
Place the lumber pieces one on top of the other, with the marked edges matching. Attach a 5/8-inch router bit to a router and cut a 7-inch-long line at each marked point. Sand the router cuts to smooth out any rough patches. These are the stemware racks.
Lay a 1-inch-thick plank of 10-by-36 inch lumber flat on a work surface and bead a line of glue along the 36-inch edge. This is the wall mount base.
Abut the two rack planks on either side, with the router cuts facing up. Square the rack planks to 90 degrees with a carpenter’s square. Clamp them in position on either side of the base plank and leave for an hour to dry.
Drill 10 evenly spaced pilot holes sized slightly smaller than the width of 1-inch wood screws along both glued joints.
Secure the rack planks to the base plank with 1-inch screws driven through the pilot holes. Sand the racks and base planks and varnish or paint the glass rack as desired and let dry.
Locate three wall studs in the position where you want to mount the wine glass rack using a wall stud finder. Mark a level line between the wall studs at the mounting height.
Place the base plank flat on the wall on the level mounting line and secure it to the wall with four drywall screws drilled into each stud position; two just below the top rack and two just above the bottom rack. Touch up the screw holes with paint if desired. This rack will hold 32 glasses.
