Lay the pallet right-side up, so the side with the most slats is facing up. This side will become the back of your kitchen shelving unit.
Attach two heavy-duty D-ring hangers to one edge of the pallet, along one of the short sides (this edge will become the top of the shelf, so the shelf will hang on the wall as a tall rectangle). Drill the hangers into the pallet with a cordless drill fitted with a phillips-head bit, using the screws that come with the D-rings. Position each D-ring two inches from the outside edge of the pallet.
Flip the pallet over. Balance it against a wall with the D-rings against the wall and at the top of the pallet. There are nine shelf openings on the front of the pallet, between the four vertical slats and the four horizontal slats.
Fit a cordless drill with a 1/32-inch drill bit, and pre-drill two holes into the bottom edge of each of the nine openings. Evenly space the holes between the adjacent vertical slats. These holes will prevent the wood from splitting when you drive the nails into the shelves.
Drive a 3-inch common nail into each pre-drilled hole. Be sure to drive the nails in vertically, and drive them all the way to the bottom of each shelf. The nails will hold your china or other objects in place in each shelf opening when the shelf is installed.
