How to Make a Kitchen Drawer Box

Kitchen drawer boxes are ideal solutions for creating order in your kitchen drawers as they allow you to organize everything from silverwear to tea bags. These drawers also make it simple to clean the drawer, since you simply remove the box from the drawer and wipe it down with a damp cloth. Paint or stain these wooden boxes to match your current kitchen theme or décor.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the kitchen drawer and use the measuring tape to gather the desired dimensions of the drawer box. Determine a desired height, length and width of the drawer box, and write down your measurements.

    • 2

Draw the required pieces on a plywood sheet using a pencil and ruler, drawing two side panels with the height and width dimensions. Draw two end panels for the box using the height and length dimensions, minus one inch from the length figure. Draw one rectangle for the bottom of the box using the width and length dimensions.

    • 3

Cut the five panels for the kitchen drawer box using the table saw. Use the sandpaper to remove any splinters from the plywood.

    • 4

Place the two side pieces and the two end pieces on their half-inch wide ends. Create a rectangular box of the four pieces, so the front and back pieces are inside the side pieces. Use the clamp to hold this box frame in place. Hammer nails through the ends of the side pieces, so the side panels attach to the two end pieces. Remove the clamps when done.

    • 5

Lay the bottom piece on top of the drawer box frame, so all the sides line up evenly. Hammer nails around the perimeter, so the bottom piece attaches to the frame. Place the nails between an inch and two inches apart.
