DIY Kitchen Butcher Block Storage Cabinet

Many kitchens are in chronic need of more storage. By building your own butcher block storage unit, not only will you have more storage opportunities, but you will also have a surface suitable for cutting on. Re-purpose an old base, or lower, kitchen cabinet and modify it to turn it into a custom storage unit. Or you can purchase a pre-made base cabinet and use it in the same manner. Other supplies for this project are available at home improvement and hardware stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove drawers and/ or shelves from the cabinet to get easier access to the interior. Set the butcher block on top of the cabinet and center it so that the overhang is the same on all four sides.

    • 2

Reach inside the cabinet and attach the butcher block into place. Screw through the cabinet supports and into the butcher block. Do this at all four corners of the cabinet.

    • 3

Spread out an old towel or blanket on a flat work surface. Turn the cabinet over and place on the blanket, so it is resting on the butcher block.

    • 4

Install the casters in each corner with the included screws. Turn the cabinet right-side up and replace the drawers and shelves.
