How to Store Reconstituted Stone Benchtops

Reconstituted stone contains marble, quartz or granite combined with a resin. Bench tops made from reconstituted stone are more resistant to damage from stains or cracking than some natural stone. Although strong, these bench tops may be damaged if used or stored improperly. If you need to store one or more bench tops, taking a few protective measures can ensure the bench tops remain whole and beautiful.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a storage area away from hot surfaced items, such as furnaces. Reconstituted stone is heat resistant, but can be damaged if exposed continuously to heat or exposed to high heat.

    • 2

Place a plastic tarp on the floor in the storage area. Over this, place a canvas tarp. Gently lay the bench tops down side by side, flat on the tarps. Cover the tops with another plastic tarp to keep them dust-free. Do not place heavy items or items holding fluids on top of the bench tops. Cushions or blankets are fine, however.

    • 3

Remove strong cleaning products from the area. Chemicals such as oven cleaners, or products containing trichlorethane or methylene chloride, found in some paint thinners and paint strippers may harm the bench tops if accidently spilled.
