How to Paint Kids Furniture

Design and create a beautifully hand painted set of furniture for your kids. Painting kid's furniture is a special way to create a keepsake for your children that they will cherish for many years to come. Even after they outgrow it, they can pass it on for generations to come.

Things You'll Need

  • Wood furniture
  • Fine sandpaper
  • Primer
  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes (variety of sizes)
  • Stencils
  • Clear acrylic sealer (spray or brush on)
  • Tarp covered or cement working area
  • Slightly damp rag

      Chose furniture to paint. This can be a table and chair set, a rocking chair, headboard and footboard, desk, dresser and so much more.

      Get inspired. Look for design ideas and chose a theme to decorate and paint your furniture.

      Chose colors that will coordinate with the room that they will be used in.

      Gently sand furniture to remove residue or rough spots. If you have unfinished furniture, you can skip this step.

      Wipe down with a slightly damp rag to remove dust.

      Apply a coat of primer to give yourself a blank canvas. Be sure that the coat of primer is even.

      Sketch design, pattern or theme onto the furniture with a pencil.

      Start painting. Depending on detail, you may need to use a variety of sizes of paintbrushes. Also try sponging or using stencils.

      Complete all details for a finished product!

      Allow paint to dry, then apply a coat of acrylic sealer.

      Allow sealer to dry overnight.
