Instructions

    • 1

Determine how high off of the floor you want the mattress to be. Consider a low bed for toddlers and small children.

    • 2

Create legs for your twin bed by building them from lumber or purchasing them at a local home-building store. Set the legs at the same distance from each corner. If you place the legs directly on each corner, consider adding extra support under the middle by building a 2 by 4 frame, or by building supports out of particle board in the shape of an "X."

    • 3

Build a platform that is large enough to hold a twin-sized mattress, 39 inches wide by 79 inches long. Consider carpeting this platform to avoid the mattress sliding around. You can also attach quarter-round trim to achieve the same goal.

    • 4

Attach the legs of the bed to the platform with sturdy screws. Drill pilot holes to avoid splitting the wood.

    • 5

Build a headboard. A basic rectangular headboard is the easiest and can be covered with fabric to match any decorating scheme.
