How to Design a Child's Playhouse

Designing a child's playhouse is exciting, especially when you think about how much fun children will have playing in it and using their imaginations. Whether it's for a girl or a boy, the playhouse can be decorated to fit any child's dreams.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on the size of the playhouse you are designing before beginning the actual drawing. Sketch the walls, doors, windows and roof. Details can be added in later.

    • 2

Determine the location of the child's playhouse. If it is outside, you will need to choose material that is weather resistant. Inside playhouses may be designed with a different material that does not have to be resistant against outside conditions.

    • 3

Evaluate the drawing to determine where the door and windows will be placed and the height of the roof. If the playhouse is more than one story high, determine the location of the stairs or steps.

    • 4

Design a playhouse that will accommodate more than one child and allow enough room comfortably to entertain multiple children. Perhaps add a back door or secret entrance.

    • 5

Check to see if the playhouse will have carpet. Choose an outdoor carpet that allows wear and tear and that is resistant to mold problems. You also want a carpet that can be easily swept or vacuumed.

    • 6

Find out if the playhouse will have electricity and evaluate where all electrical outlets will be placed. Keep in mind the well being of the child. Consult an expert regarding the safest ways to wire a child's playhouse.

    • 7

Select durable roofing material, window panes and the type of glass, if designing a playhouse for outside. Evaluate the overall design before the actual construction begins. It's important that safety comes first.
