Instructions for a Three-Way Crib

Recycling is not limited to plastic bottles, aluminum cans and old newspapers. Convertible cribs are designed to grow or transition as a child changes in stature. Instead of buying additional bedroom furniture once a baby outgrows the crib, a three-way crib can be transformed into a toddler bed and later, depending on the crib, can be changed to a daybed or a full-sized bed.
  1. Instructions

    • Don't use power screwdrivers to assemble the crib, warns Million Dollar Baby. Use a Phillips head screwdriver instead, and where appropriate, an Allen wrench. Make sure that all of the crib parts are there, including the base, end top rails, side top rails, end panels, side panels, guard rail, feet, post brackets and spring frame. Connection hardware, or the necessary screws, dowels and bolts should be within easy reach for assembly. Keep the parts and connection hardware that are not used to assemble the crib for use in converting the bed in the future.

Assembling the crib starts with placing a wood dowel into each of the feet, then bolting the four feet to the base, using a Phillips screwdriver. Screw the four post brackets to the end panels, and then put wood dowels into the top of the two side panels and the two end panels. Fasten the two side top rails and the two end top rails to the panels.

Put wood dowels into the holes at the ends of the base. Bolt the two end panels to the base, making sure the post brackets face the inside of the crib. Put wood dowels into the holes along the back top edge. Bolt the back side panel to the base.

Swing out the four hangers at the corners of the spring frame. Fasten the spring frame with the flat side up. Start the mattress at the highest level and adjust it down as the child grows. Attach the spring frame to the posts using Allen head bolts. Put wood dowels into the holes in the base along the front top edge, and then screw in the front side panel.

Million Dollar Baby is a wholesaler of juvenile furniture that is distributed to furniture stores and other retailers throughout the United States. The company says proper assembly, maintenance and operation of the crib will extend its use. You can also extend the life of the crib mattress by creating a mattress protector. The company says this can be done by cutting the cardboard packing insert to 27 inches by 51 inches, and placing it on the spring frame under the mattress.

To convert the crib to a daybed, unbolt and remove the front panel assembly. Move the spring frame to the lowest level, and then fasten the guard rail to the side panel posts.
