Moving your child into a toddler bed is a big moment in your child's life. Many cribs today are designed to also be used as toddler beds, and can later be converted to full size beds. Converting your child's crib to a toddler bed can be done quickly, safely and easily with some simple tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screw driver
  • Short side railing (either one that comes with the crib, or purchase one that can be attached)

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the bedding, bumper pads and any toys or mobiles attached to the crib.

    • 2

Locate the corresponding screws and bolts that attach the front panel of your crib to the sides. These typically are located on the sides, not the front part of the panel.

    • 3

Unscrew the screws or bolts that hold the crib front in place. Set the screws safely aside.

    • 4

Remove the front panel of the crib and set it aside.

    • 5

Locate the short railing that will now go into place on the front part of the crib. These typically are about 12 inches to 36 inches high, and are about half the length of the crib front. If you do not have one that came with the crib, you can purchase one from many children's stores.

Attach the side railing into place by screwing the pieces into the designated holes on the bottom of the front panel, below where the mattress is located. If you are using a railing purchased from a store, it will come with hinges to attach to the bottom base rail and side railings for support.
