Where Can I Find a Child Twin Bed With Removable Mesh Rails?

When your toddler has outgrown her crib, you want her safe and comfortable at night, and you want easy access to her in case of emergency. The phase during which a child needs to be protected from falling out of bed is brief. You may want to purchase a twin bed with removable mesh rails, however, most removable mesh bed rails need to be purchased separately from the bed.
  1. Convertible Crib

    • If you're not at that stage yet, a convertible crib might be a good investment. When your toddler starts trying to climb over the side, you remove the side, lower the mattress and you've got a daybed to which you can add removable mesh rails. The downside is that a tall toddler will soon outgrow the length of the crib mattress.

    Built-in Rails

    • Some toddler beds come with built-in rails that are part of the bed's overall design, but they are not made of mesh. A rare few come with built-in rails that are removable. Walmart sometimes carries a Disney Cars bed with removable mesh rails.

    Folding or Sliding Rails

    • A great many more options are available if you choose to buy your child a regular twin, or even a full-size bed, which he will use for many years to come. While your child is little, you can add a mesh rail that secures to the frame under the mattress. One Step Ahead makes one that actually folds down and slides under the mattress so that you can easily get to your child. This option also makes bedding changes easy. Other rails fold down to hang upside down when you don't need them. You can even buy two rails if your child's bed has open space on both sides.

    Low Bed

    • Some parents avoid bed rails altogether, opting instead to place a regular bed close to the floor. You can do this by placing the mattress directly on the floor. You can also buy a bed frame that sits low to the floor and use it without a box spring, adding the box spring later when your child needs to be up higher.

    Loft Bed

    • Many loft beds--raised beds with storage or play space underneath--come with optional built-in rails to keep a child of any age from falling out. These rails are made of the same material as the rest of the bed, not mesh.
