How to Buy Cribs for Twins

Although the basic needs for a crib are the same whether you are having one baby or two, you need to consider a few things when purchasing cribs for twins.
  1. Number of Cribs

    • Newborn twins are often more comfortable sleeping together, and can be placed in the same crib. If you do decide to have them sleep together, you can purchase a crib divider to prevent the babies from rolling into each other. However, eventually as the twins get older and bigger, they will need their own cribs. Although you may be able to put off the purchase of a second crib if your budget won't allow you to buy two at once, you will need two.

    Choosing a Crib

    • If you plan to have the twins sleep in the same room, you will likely want to look for matching cribs. Although stores may not have multiple cribs in the same style in stock, they can order a second crib for you from another store. This may take more time than simply ordering two cribs through an online store, but it will save you money in shipping.

    Convertible Cribs

    • Convertible cribs are the cribs that convert into a bed once the child is old enough. This may be something you are interested in. If so, be sure to purchase the matching dressers at the time of the crib purchase. When the twins are infants, you will likely only need one dresser for both their clothes. However, if you wait to buy a second dresser, then it is possible that only one child will have a matching bedroom set.
