Different Styles of Simplicity Cribs

Simplicity for Children, a manufacturer of children's cribs, has been carried in major retail stores in the past. A series of safety recalls by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has resulted in the dropping of these products by most outlets. Avoid tubular metal mattress-support frames as well as fixed-side and drop-side cribs, which are featured on some Simplicity for Children cribs; both led to the recalls.
  1. The Tuscany

    • The Tuscany 4-in-1 Convertible Crib features a pecan finish, turned spindles and arched headboards. The mattress support adjusts to four different height positions, making it easier to lift or lower your baby into the crib as he grows. Toddler rails are included, and the Tuscany converts to a sofa bed or standard-size bed when needed. Mattress is not included. No safety certifications are listed.

    The Ellis

    • The Ellis 4-in-1 Crib, like the Tuscany, is a convertible crib and can be used as a child's transitional bed, a daybed and a full-size headboard that uses a full-size mattress, box spring and frame, which are not included. This bed features a hardwood, light natural finish and a four-position metal mattress support. The Ellis, as advertised, included double drop-sides, a feature responsible for earlier recalls of this product. The Ellis lists the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association in its advertising but does not claim certification.

    The Aspen

    • The Aspen is a 4-in-1 convertible crib with four adjustable mattress levels and comes with a rolling drawer for storage beneath it. Made of hardwood, the Aspen converts to a transitional toddler bed, daybed and full-size bed. The crib and drawers are on rolling coasters. The mattress is not included. The Aspen also features the single drop-side design that has been recalled. There are no safety certifications listed for this crib.

    Buyer Beware

    • On April 29, 2010, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled all Simplicity full-size cribs, regardless of model number, with tubular metal mattress-support frames, as well as fixed-side and drop-side cribs. These cribs pose a risk of injury or death to infants and toddlers due to strangulation, entrapment, suffocation and fall hazards. Anyone purchasing Simplicity for Children products should fully research that product's safety and recall record prior to purchase.
