General Crib Assembly Instructions

A crib is one of the most necessary pieces of furniture you will buy for your baby. The crib can be used from the time your baby is born up until she is a toddler. Some convertible cribs turn into toddler beds and then into twin-sized beds. Don't let the cost of cribs determine which one you get for your child. Focus instead on how durable and safe it is, and whether it is convertible or not. Buying a crib new from the store is the best option. There will be instructions and no pieces will be missing.

Instructions

Open the box containing all the pieces of your new crib. Read any paperwork and instruction manuals thoroughly. Check to make sure all the pieces of the crib are in the box. Attach any hardware to the side support rails, if necessary, using a Phillips head screwdriver. Ensure that all pre-installed hardware is secure and properly attached. Use the screwdriver to tighten any loose screws.

Separate the pieces of the crib according to what they are and which side they go on. Set the headboard up against the wall where you want the crib to be. Stand the crib frame side support board up, then have someone hold the other end of the piece upright as you insert the male hardware of the side board into the female hardware of the head and footboard pieces. Do the same for the other side support piece. Put the hardware into the highest set of holes on the head and footboard pieces if you want the mattress to be at the highest level of the crib, or the lowest set of holes if you want the mattress to be lower.

Look along the inner edges of the installed side support boards to find the lip, or edge, where the edges of the mattress support board will rest. Set the mattress support board onto the frame support side boards carefully, keeping it straight so it sits securely in the frame. Turn the silver sliders that are located on the top edges of the side support boards so they stick out and cover the mattress support board. This ensures that the board does not pop up from the edges it rests on.

Hold one of the slatted side rails up to the side of the crib, so that the hardware on each side of the rail is lined up with the hardware on the headboard and footboard pieces. Position the side rail hardware to be directly above the hardware on the crib. Squeeze the handles on each side of the rail, then drop the side rail hardware down into the hardware on the crib, sliding down until the hardware clicks and locks into place. Do the same for the other slatted side rail. Squeeze the handles on top of the side rail, and either lift up or push down to raise or lower them into position.

Set the mattress into the crib. Push down on it slightly to make sure it lays flat on the mattress support board.
