How to Assemble Lullabye Cribs

Lullabye Furniture Company manufactured quality children's furniture in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, from the 1920s through the 1990s. Many of their cribs have been passed down through generations of families and are still in use today. One of the problems for many crib owners is locating the assembly instructions, since the company is now closed. The crib assembly steps that are listed below are from a Lullabye crib that was manufactured in the early 1990s. Most single-drop side crib mechanisms, howerver, are alike.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify the stabilizer bar, which will be approximately the length of the crib. Use a flat blade screwdriver to loosen the lower screws that hold the upper drop-side latches to both the head and foot board of the crib.

    • 2

Position the stabilizer bar in front of the latches and under the screw head at each end of the drop side. Tighten screws when everything is aligned.

    • 3

Assemble the stationary crib side by threading a screw partially into the hole at the bottom of the stationary foot and headboard corner posts. Place slotted brackets at the bottom of the stationary crib side and slide onto the screws. Screw top brackets to corner posts. Using the screwdriver, tighten bottom screws to secure slotted brackets to the corner posts.

    • 4

Position mattress support by placing the straight end of four spring hangers. Place each hanger one at a time in each of the four brackets that are part of the mattress support; use a hammer to install them all the way. Put the mattress support spring into the crib with the flat side up. Take care not to scratch the wood crib sides while positioning it.

    • 5

Place the spring hangers of the mattress spring support onto the brackets that are screwed to the crib posts. If the child is very young, place the spring hangers in the highest position. As the child grows, lower the mattress spring support to a lower position.

    • 6

Place one of the casters into one of the holes in the bottom of each crib post and be sure that it is pushed all the way into the hole.

    • 7

Assemble the drop side of the crib by placing it next to the crib with the drop side release toward the inside of the crib. Run the cane rod through the hole in the top of the drop side and pass it through the hole in the upper drop-side latch. Put the tapered spring over the cane rod with the small end up, and then run the rod through the hole in the bottom rail of the drop side. Put a tapered spring over the rod with the small end down. Run the rod through the lower drop-side latch. Check that the large ends of both springs should be up against the wood rails.

    • 8

Place the drop side in the down position and place a screw into the cane rod, at the top, with a screwdriver.

    • 9

Repeat steps 7 and 8 to complete the other end of the drop side of the crib.
