How to Assemble a Legacy Convertible Bed

Buying beds for children comes in phases. The first phase is the crib then they graduate to something slightly smaller than a twin size bed and finally they make it to a regular size bed. One solution to overcome these phases is to purchase a crib that converts to the toddler-size bed and can then be modified into a regular size bed. These types of beds are called convertibles. You don't want to lose the extra parts for the conversions along with the assembly instructions.

Instructions

Reposition the scissor lift arms. Put the mattress support spring on a worktable upside down. Locate the hex bolt and nut at each of the corners and remove them. Move the short arm of the scissor lift from facing the middle of the spring to facing the outside of the spring. Secure the short arm back to the spring with the hex bolt and nut you removed.

Attach the stabilizer bars. Hold one of the two stabilizer bars on the inside of one set of scissor lifts and secure it through the remaining holes in the scissor lifts. Use two hex bolts and the hex wrench provided with the convertible bed. Repeat this on the opposite side of the spring with the remaining stabilizer bar. Locate the four wood dowels and insert one in each of the holes on the ends of the stabilizer bars.

Add the side panels to the spring assembly. Turn the spring assembly over so the stabilizer bars are on the bottom. Insert the dowels sticking out of the ends of the stabilizer bars into the top hole in the inside of the side panels. Secure the panels to the spring assembly with the decorative bolt and the provided Allen wrench.

Secure the front and back to the bed. Insert a wooden dowel in the bottom hole located on each side panel. Secure the front panel to the side panels by inserting the wooden dowel on the lower part of the side panel into the bottom hole on the front panel. Secure it to the side panels with four short decorative bolts. Repeat this for the back panel.

Convert the crib to a toddler's bed. Remove the front panel and then remove the bolts holding the center panel to the front panel. Secure the toddler rail to the bottom set of holes with the existing dowels and the decorative bolts you just removed from the center panel of the front panel. Secure this assembly to the side panels with the short bolts that held the front panel to the bed.

Change the toddler's bed to a full bed. Remove the front and back panels and turn them over so the curve in the center panel is facing up. Put a wooden dowel in the center hole in the ends of the bed rails and then align the dowel with the center hole in the posts of the front and back panels. Secure the pieces in each corner with two long decorative bolts, two metal collars provided and two nuts. Tighten the bolts with the Allen wrench and lay the three slats in place between the bed rails.
