How to Install a Breathable Crib Bumper

Breathable baby bumpers protect your child from getting her legs or arms stuck in crib railings while also reducing the risk of suffocation and over-heating that traditional bumpers can create. Unlike cloth bumpers that can trap a baby underneath or make the crib temperature too hot by not allowing the air to circulate, breathable bumpers are made from mesh. This material still prevents the baby from making contact with the rails but keeps the crib at an adequate temperature. Installing the bumper properly into your slatted crib is essential for the product to be effective.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the short panel of the bumper against the rails in the front of the crib. Position the bumper so the hook and loop fasteners face outward and the shiny mesh fabric faces the inside of the crib.

    • 2

Pull one end of the bumper out through the corner front slat of the crib, and wrap it around the front of the crib. Secure the top and bottom hook and loop fasteners to the crib. Pull the other end of the bumper through the opposite side of the crib, and secure the product using the hook and loop fasteners. The front crib rails should now be fully enclosed in the mesh bumper.

Place the long panel bumper against the railings of the back end of the crib. Position it so the loop and hook fasteners face outward and the shiny mesh side faces in. Attach the bumper to the first slat next to the corner front post on either side of the crib using the hooks and loops.

Pull one end of the long panel bumper through a slat, and wrap it around the inside of the sides of the crib. Weave the bumper around the slats at either end of the crib. Secure the hook and loop fasteners to the other end of the crib side on the last slat. Repeat the process with the other end of the bumper. The bumper should now be installed on the crib and fit snugly along the slats.

Tuck the bottom of the bumper between the crib and the mattress all the way around the crib.
