Floor Lamps for Kids

Lighting is necessary for all rooms in your house and your child's room is no exception. Ceiling lights are standard, but can be run of the mill. Spruce up your child's bedroom with a decorative floor lamp. Floor lamps for children come in a variety of designs, colors and themes to match your child's room perfectly. Use a floor lamp to add more natural light to the room, to personalize a reading or quiet corner, or just to add pizazz to the decor.
  1. Theme Lamps

    • Incorporate a floor lamp into your child's themed bedroom. These come in just about any design you can imagine. There are sports themed lamps for baseball, basketball and football. There are lamps with cars and trains on them. Animal lovers would enjoy a floor lamp with a bird house attached or an animal lamp shade. Princess lamps come in a large selection. These range from princesses on the lamp shade to chandelier style shades that are dripping with plastic crystals and beads. Lamps are also available with garden, bug and floral themes.

    Toned Down Lamps

    • There are versions of more adult style lamps for children's rooms. These lamps are often a bit shorter than the regular versions to fit the room and child better. These lamps are available with standard iron, gold or silver bases and arms and neutral lamp shade colors. More colorful shades are available to match a room's color scheme but keeping with the toned down base and arm style. These styles of lamps are able to grow with a child. If you don't want to purchase a new lamp with every room theme change, these will blend in to any decor. Lamp shades can be changed to fit the new room scheme.

    Funky Lamps

    • Funky floor lamps or lamps that come in unusual designs and colors are another way to add a personalized touch to your child's room. These lamps are available with twisted or zigzag poles or poles that have sculptures coming off of them like vines or stars. Funky lamps can come with multiple colorful shades on multiple arms that bend and move. Some shades have shapes cut out of them so when the lights are off, they reflect the shapes on the wall. Some come with color changing LED light bulbs to give a rainbow effect when turned on.

    Lamp Safety

    • When shopping for the perfect floor lamp, be sure to look for safety features. If you are going to put a lamp in a very young child's room, be sure it is tall enough that the child cannot reach the switch or light bulb. This will help prevent burns from touching the hot bulb. Some lamps come with shades that are made so the child cannot access the bulb. If you have a very curious child, this may be the way to go. If you are using halogen bulbs, remember they burn much hotter than traditional florescent bulbs.
