Designs to Make a Toddler Bed

When toddlers are getting too big for the crib it becomes a safety hazard to keep them there as they can climb out and might fall. At this time, toddlers need a bed of their own instead of a crib. There are a wide range of designs to make a toddler bed available online for the do-it-yourself mom or dad.
  1. Simple Wood Bed

    • Simple wooden bed plans are available online, usually for free. These have the basic shape of a toddler bed and are made low to the ground so a toddler can get in and out of the bed without troubles. The bed looks similar to a regular bed but is smaller and lower to the ground for baby safety.

    White and Girlie

    • A toddler bed made for a little girl is appropriate in colors like white, light pink or light purple. The method of making the bed is relatively simple, requiring the wood frame and headboard with the mattress added to the top. For toddler safety, the designers add blocks at the top of the bed about one third down the bed to prevent the baby from falling out at night.

    Toddler Bed Tents

    • Toddler beds do not need a plain and simple design. Adding a tent to the bed can give the baby a place to feel safe and keep away the monsters without having the risks of a baby too big for the crib. Tents for the toddler bed vary widely in styles and intentions. The bed is simple and built like normal but the tent goes around the bed. The tent can be a real tent, a netting which hangs from the ceiling to keep the baby in a safe mindset or one that keeps out bugs at night.

    Crib-like Designs

    • Some toddler beds are similar in design to a crib, but have lower sides. The point of the design is keeping the baby from falling out during the night but not preventing the baby from getting out of bed when they wake up in the morning. The top and bottom of the bed have higher sides while the two sides have shorter railing options.
