Cribs That Fold Up

Cribs that can fold up for storage or convenience are a good option for parents who have little space for a conventional crib or for travel. Folding cribs are easy to assemble and store and are economical, so they are a good choice for parents on a budget. They are an ideal solution for situations that require multiple sleeping arrangements for the baby, such as a permanent crib at home and a folding crib for stays at the grandparents' home.
  1. Benefits

    • Folding cribs offer ease and convenience. Transportable folding cribs are lightweight and easily assembled and fit into a neat package for travel. More conventional folding crib designs are similar to traditional cribs, but the crib can be disassembled and folds flat for easy storage. These are a good option for parents with limited space. Most folding cribs are designed to fit easily into conventional-sized closets when folded flat.

    Foldable Portable Cribs

    • Foldable portable cribs are designed for travel and tend to be smaller than traditional cribs. These cribs are suitable for small babies and are generally not suitable for children who are able to roll over or who weigh more than 22 lbs. They are usually made from a timber frame with a fabric body and support a small mattress that may be sold separately from the crib frame.

    Three-in-One Foldable Portable Cribs

    • A typical three-in-one foldable portable crib is approximately 35 percent smaller than a traditional full-size crib and is designed for small spaces, such as apartments. The crib is easily assembled and folds up to fit in a small closet, under a bed or in a carrying bag. It features multiposition mattress support to allow conversion to a bassinet, changing table and playpen as necessary. These cribs are generally suitable for children more than 1 month old and weighing up to approximately 35 lbs.

Features to Look for in a Foldable Crib

    • Safety is one of the most important considerations when choosing foldable cribs. Check that the crib meets the standards set out by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Look for the Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association's seal of approval on the product specification, which certifies that the crib meets all safety standards. With full-size foldable cribs that carry a drop side, check that the locking fittings are secure, to prevent accidental injury to the child. If the crib has rolling wheels, ensure that the casters lock securely.
