Ideas for Bedrooms With Slides for Boys

A slides could turn any boy's room from a standard room into a playful domain. Some companies specialize in creating beds with slide attachments or slides for indoor use. These are generally smaller than typical outdoor slides and are meant to fit into a standard 8-by-8 foot room. Before installing a slide in a boy's room, make certain there is plenty of space and no dangerous obstructions. Create plenty of room to maneuver around the slide.
  1. Bunk Beds with a Slide

    • Instead of standard bunk beds, put a bunk bed with a ladder and slide in his room. The stacked beds open up space. The ladder and slide are either both on the front side of the bunk bed or a slide on the front and the ladder on an adjacent side. Bunk beds with slide attachments are generally shorter than typical bunk beds, which keeps the slide from forming a sharp angle. The bunk beds measure a little over 4 feet tall, 6 feet wide and 7 feet long. Measure the size of the bedroom before purchasing the bunk beds. Set up the bunk beds so they allow the child to easily stand and walk around when exiting the slide.

Loft Bed with a Slide and Tent

    • Some loft beds come equipped with a slide that attaches to the top and a tent that covers the bottom half. The tent extends outward, making a roomy clubhouse beneath the loft bed. Some of these beds also have a tent that attaches over the top, creating an even larger hideaway. Loft beds with slides measure about 4 feet tall, 9 feet long and 8 feet wide. Keep in mind that a bottom and top tent may add at least 3 feet in height and 3 feet in width to the current dimensions.

    Reading Area Exit Slide

    • Install a tall row of sturdy cabinetry across the length of one wall for storage. Build a secure railing across the length of the top for safety purposes. The rail should be tall enough to prevent falls, measuring at least 2 feet in height. Set a custom cushion on the top of the cabinetry, creating a long crawl space. Install a recessed book shelf above the cabinets to turn it into a reading nook. Attach a ladder on one end and a slide on the other. This creates a raised resting or reading area with an exit slide. Only install a construction like this in a larger room. Keep the height around 4 feet at the most so the angle of the slide is not unnecessarily sharp. Do not install this type of reading nook in a young child's room that is not yet coordinated; keep children under 7 off the structure.

    Safety First

    • Follow all installation instructions carefully or hire a professional to properly install beds and build structures in a room. Set throw pillows beneath the slide to prevent hard falls, and teach children how to properly use indoor slides. Keep children under 7 off of top bunks and always properly install rails.
