How to Date a Bassett Tiger Oak Convertible Crib

John David "J.D." Bassett and his family started a sawmill on their property in Virginia in the late 1800s. In 1902, under the vision of J.D. and his brothers, Bassett Furniture Co. was started. A dresser cost $4.50 back then. The company has come a long way from the lumber yard. Today they have stores in the mainland United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. In 1999, the company added convertible cribs to its line of baby furniture.

Locate the model number and production date on the convertible crib. Do this by looking on the base of the headboard, where there should a white label. On the label are the model number and a simple production date code.

    • 2

Write the numbers down. The two codes will tell the company the month and date the crib was manufactured. If the crib is a Bassett Furniture crib, the model number will start with a '5' and be seven or eight digits long, with a space in the middle, such as 5010 0521 or 5010 521. Below the model number will be a production date such as 4/01. This is the month and year in which the crib was manufactured. If there are any doubts, have the two numbers handy and call the company at (800) 308-7485 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST, Monday to Friday. Speak to a customer service representative, who will ask for those two codes. With that information, he will be able to verify the production date of the crib.

Take a picture of the crib. If the white label is missing or you cannot find it on the crib, email the picture to [email protected]. A representative of the company will be able to decipher when the crib was made and will email you its production date.
