How to Assemble a Jenny Lind Baby Bed

While most cribs on the consumer market can be identified by their manufacturer name, the Jenny Lind is a baby bed that is manufactured by many crib makers. It is named for a Swedish performer in the P.T. Barnum shows who is said to have slept on furniture with the distinctive knobby spindles seen on all Jenny Lind cribs. While there are multiple manufacturers, the assembly instructions are fairly universal; you should be able to assemble such a crib within 45 minutes.

Install the two L brackets to the left side of the headboard and to the right side of the footboard. The headboard is the piece that is marked with the manufacturer tag. The notched brackets will go in the top position and have a mark denoting the left and right side. The notch should be to the inside of the crib, and the angle in the bracket should be pointing up. Attach the lower bracket so the angle points down.

Install the stationary rail to the opposite side of the headboard and footboard. To do this, insert a cross wood dowel into each corner of the stationery rail so the slot is parallel to the rail. Next, install the 13/16-inch screws and turn them clockwise to tighten them.

Insert the spring assembly brackets into the four corners of the crib, making sure each bracket is set to the same level. If your crib is equipped with the wooden support system, you will need to first attach the support brackets to the support system using a screwdriver.

Insert one caster into the bottom of each leg of the crib. Press down on the crib until the casters lock into place. Once the casters are installed, you cannot remove them from the crib.

Install the drop-rail of your crib. Place the drop pins at the bottom corners of the rail onto the L bracket. Insert the drop rod through the hole on the top edge of the rail and guide it through to the L bracket. Place the smaller spring between the top of the bottom rail and the L-bracket. Continue guiding the drop-rod through the brackets, loading the long spring onto the drop rod and inserting the drop rod into the lower L bracket.
