How to Convert a Toddler Bed from Pottery Barn Kids

Locate the lower metal tracks on the headboard and footboard of your crib, situated on the ends where the head and foot boards meet with the drop side. Remove the machine screws and the rubber washers with the flat-head screwdriver. Store these pieces in a safe place.

Lower the drop side of the crib; it will fall freely to the floor. Store in a safe place; you will need it if you want to convert the toddler bed back to a crib. Remove the drop side bar from the crib, which is the wood piece where the drop side sits when the crib is assembled, by removing the screws on both ends. Lift the drop bar up, removing any leftover hardware.

Place the mattress support on the lowest position before assembling the toddler bed. Remove the screws supporting it on each corner of the crib. Place the mattress support on the lowest position. Secure the mattress support by tightening the screws on the corners of the crib.

Attach the four metal brackets to both ends of the two conversion side rails. Place wood screws on the smallest holes in the brackets. Allow the wood screws to stay slightly loose.

Attach the two conversion side rails to the crib using the machine screws. Start with the top metal brackets. Attach it to the four-position spring bracket just above the lowest position using machine screws. Unbolt the two hex-head machine screws holding the crib mattress to the four-position spring bracket where the conversion side rail is being placed. Place a machine screw though the spring tab, the metal bracket and thread into the lowest position of the four-position spring bracket. Tighten all screws.

Place mattress on the toddler bed.
