How Can I Make a Bench out of an Antique Crib?

If you have an old crib sitting at home, or if you found one that caught your eye in a yard sale, you can turn it into a bench to give it more life. Many cribs now convert to benches, and it is easy to turn antique cribs into seats, as well. If the crib is in good enough condition to support an adult, then you can easily turn it into a bench as decoration for your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the mattress from the crib. Verify the crib is in good condition and that it is capable of supporting the weight of an adult. Check your crib's instructions, if available, for the maximum weight it can hold. Verify there's no missing hardware or broken parts.

    • 2

Remove the front side of the crib. Remove the screws with a screwdriver and the bolts with an Allen wrench. Verify there are no bolts or screws left in the sides of the crib. Store the front side of the crib. Leave the sides and the back of the crib intact.

    • 3

Fasten down the bolts and screws on the rest of the crib tightly to prevent the crib from coming apart. Replace missing bolts and screws if needed.

    • 4

Remove the finish of the crib with sand paper. Paint the bench in the color of your choice. Allow to dry. Place the mattress back on the crib to use as a cushion. Place other decorative cushions on the bench as decoration.
