How to Paint a Hunting Theme Shelf

Clean any dirt and debris off the shelf by using a sponge to wash it with soap and water.

Use sandpaper to smooth any rough areas and imperfections on the shelf.

Purchase paint intended for wood surfaces in hunting-themed colors, such as green, black, brown and yellow, as well as primer. Choose the finish you prefer, such as matte or glossy. Paint and primer can be purchased from many home renovation and decor stores.

Lay down a drop cloth to protect your workspace and place your supplies, such as the shelf, primer and paint, on top.

Apply a thin, even coat of primer to the shelf using a thick paintbrush. Allow the primer to dry completely.

Add a layer of green paint to the shelf over the dry primer. Be sure to completely cover the shelf in green paint. Allow this layer to dry and, if desired, apply up to three more coats of green paint. Allow the paint to dry in between layers and before adding additional paint.

Pour out small amounts of your additional hunting-themed paint colors into shallow plastic dishes, such as plastic plates.

Dip a clean, dry sponge into the brown paint and press it sporadically onto the dry, green shelf to begin creating a hunting-themed camouflage design. Allow the paint to dry.

Repeat Step 8 with the yellow and black paint colors. Allow your hunting-themed shelf to dry completely before use.
