Refurbishing a Toddler Bed

A child's development can be marked by the type of bed they sleep in. Between sleeping in a crib and a twin-size bed, children use a toddler bed. A toddler bed is a miniature-size bed that is shorter than a standard bed, making it easier for the toddler to get into it. If you need to refurbish a toddler bed, keep in mind that you want to paint it in such a way to make it appealing for the child.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the bedding from the bed. Take the mattress and box spring off the bed.

    • 2

Tighten all of the screws and bolts around the bed with your screwdriver or wrench. Make sure the bed does not squeak when you move the frame back and forth a bit. If any of the screws and bolts are missing or damaged, replace them.

    • 3

Evaluate the appearance of the bed. Make sure it matches the bedroom in terms of color and theme. Also make sure that it does not appear to be dull and used with scuff marks and chipped paint.

    • 4

Paint the bed frame if it is needed. Use colors that match the other furniture in the room. Remember, this is a toddler's bed, so using bright colors is recommended. Painting the legs and trim one color and the rest of the bed another color is a neat way to create an attractive piece of furniture.

Apply decals that match the room's theme. Decals can be purchased online or at various home improvement retailers. Decals of flowers, race cars or cartoon characters can make the bed fun for the toddler. Decals also make it easier for those who are not as adept at painting.

Check the comfort level of the mattress to make sure it does not sag in the middle. Also make sure that it is generally firm. If this is not the case, investing in a quality mattress will allow the toddler to get a good night's sleep, an important element in a child's health. In addition, check the box spring to make sure that it is sturdy and not cracked or sagging.

Purchase new bedding such as sheets and pillows. Do not forgot a mattress pad made for a toddler, who may have accidents throughout the night. The key to bedding is to make it an appealing and comfortable place where the toddler wants to sleep.
