DIY Drop-Side Crib to a Toddler Bed

If your child is between the ages of 18 and 36 months, he may be ready to sleep in a big-kid bed instead of a crib. Many new parents purchase cribs which they can turn into daybeds when their child is ready for this new milestone. While each manufacturer's directions may vary slightly, changing a drop-side crib to a toddler bed is a relatively simple task that should take you less than 30 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the drop-side crib out to the center of the room. Remove the crib mattress. Ask a friend to help you lay the crib down on its fixed back rail.

    • 2

Locate the rubber stoppers in the drop rail tracks, underneath both of the rail's ends. Use a screwdriver to pry the stopper out of the track. Slide the rail all the way down the track and remove it. Reinsert the rubber stoppers near the bottom of the tracks so they don't get lost.

    • 3

Back out the screws securing the tracks to the two side panels. Set the tracks aside. Lower the crib mattress support to the lowest setting, if it is not already there.

    • 4

Line the supplied stabilizer bar's screw holes up with the tracks' bottom screw holes. Use two of the screws you removed from the tracks to secure the stabilizer bar in place.

Stand the crib back up on its legs, with the assistance of a friend. Place the crib, now daybed, back against the wall. Lay the crib mattress back on the mattress support.
