How to Decorate a Tiny Room With Tree Fort Furniture

Filled with personal touches and toys, a backyard tree fort provides children with a bit of private space and a sense of independence. In many areas around the world, however, a tree house becomes unusable during snow or rain-filled months. As a result, you may wish to recreate the tree house setting in a tiny room inside your home. Make certain not to over-furnish the room, as clutter will cause the already tiny room to look even smaller as well as make it difficult to walk through.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a small but colorful children’s table in the corner of the room with no more than four matching chairs. Conserve space by pulling the table and chairs away from the wall only when all four seats are needed. Leave the table empty so as not to create clutter.

    • 2

Fill another corner with stackable storage units, available in wood and canvas, or consider a small toy chest. Create additional seating by covering the chest with padded cushions. Stuff the bins or chest with items such as board games, construction paper, safety scissors, stickers, colored pencils and crayons, as well as a plastic tea set and dolls for little girls. Include sleeping bags and pillows for sleepovers.

    • 3

Add a small plastic play kitchen or work bench to the room, if space permits. Keep as many accessories, such as plastic kitchenware and tools, inside the play set to save room.

    • 4

Use a durable and stain-resistant rug in the middle of the room, such as one made from olefin or hemp. Choose a dark color, such as ash gray or chocolate brown, to help hide potential stains.

    • 5

Personalize the room by framing and hanging your child’s drawings or photos on the walls. Allow your child to decorate the frames with items such as puffy paint, beads and stencils.
