How to Remove Glue From Wood Furniture

In most woodworking products, there is a bit of excess glue that seeps out the sides of the various joints. Since they can be rather unsightly, it becomes necessary to remove them from the wood surface. Thankfully this is a fairly simple chore.

Instructions

    • 1

Chip the glue off the furniture lightly if there is a massive amount or large buildup of dried glue. Use sandpaper or a plane to grind it as close to the surface of the wood as possible to chip the glue. The goal is to remove every last drop of glue from the surface of your wood furniture. You should be able to get rid of most of the caked on glue by chipping or sanding the glue.

Buy a glue removing agent which is available at most hardware stores. Look for a glue removing agent that you think will work with your particular situation or ask the store clerk what he or she would recommend.

    • 3

Apply your glue removing agent to the most problematic of areas, and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Read the instructions on your glue removing agent for specific instructions. A 5-minute wait is the norm.

    • 4

Wipe the applied areas clean with a clean soft towel.

    • 5

If traces of your glue removing agent remain, use hot soapy water and gently wipe the area again.

If the problem persists, repeat the steps.
