How to Buy a Good Desk Chair

Search for the right kind of chair. You want to look for a chair with the proper kind of support, so look for ergonomic chairs with backs that help your posture, have attached armrests and are adjustable. The back of the chair should cover your entire back, while at the same time be curved to provide lower back support and wide enough to support your shoulders. A good chair will have multiple adjustments--not just the height--such as adjustable armrests and a back that tilts and can be raised/lowered.

Narrow your search to chairs that fit your budget. Chairs that are much more expensive aren't necessarily better, so once you find chairs you can afford, read the reviews for those products to make sure they're worth the money. You can find many of these chairs in office supply stores and computer stores such as Office Depot and Best Buy. To help narrow your search, use search terms like "ergonomic" and "lumbar support." Some stores may even have sections specifically for these types of chairs.

Try before you buy. Many stores will have pre-assembled chairs on the floor, and you can sit in them to try them out before you decide to buy them. Some stores may even have certain models that are only available in stores and not online. Find a chair that is comfortable but gives you good back support and lets your arms and wrists rest in a normal position.
