How to Install a Cable Tray

Electronic cables can create an unsightly mess underneath a desk. Cable trays are a convenient way of organizing your cables and getting them out of sight. These wire mesh trays can be easily installed onto the back of just about any desk (excluding glasstop desks). Though all cable trays will be shaped a little bit differently, basic setup remains mostly the same. Your cable trays should come with all the necessary brackets, screws and bolts necessary for installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all objects from your desk. If applicable, move the desk away from the wall so that you have room to work.

    • 2

Screw the metal brackets to the back of your desk. You may wish to mark your bracket locations before screwing them in. Use a pencil and a meterstick to make sure that your marks are even.

    • 3

Clip or bolt the cable tray onto the brackets. Wiggle the tray around a little bit after it has been attached to make sure that it is connected securely.

    • 4

Replace the contents of your desk. Run the associated electronic cables up from the wall socket or power strip. Lay them within the cable tray.
