Plug in your iron and put on cotton setting. Take a long edge and roll it under evenly, approximately 2 inches. Press it with your hot iron to prevent fraying.
Layer your strips in desired order/pattern onto your 8 x 14 inch base fabric. Each piece should be 1/2 inch lower than the one above it.
Push pin the fabric together. Use your sewing machine to sew the fabric down at least an inch and a half from the edge. Keep the layers open at the top so you can create the pocket for each compact disc.
Turn your sewn piece over. Place your cardboard in the center and then pull the edges of the fabric over the cardboard.
Tape the fabric to the cardboard on the back where the cardboard and fabric meet to keep them together.
Wrap your coordinating 8 x 14 inch fabric piece around the second piece of cardboard. Tape the fabric to the cardboard on the back where the cardboard and fabric meet.
Sew the fabric to the cardboard just beyond where the tape attaches to your fabric (approximately 2 inches from the cardboard edge). Move slowly so you do not break or bend a needle.
Remove the tape from the cardboard and use scissors to cut away any access fabric.
Plug in your hot glue gun. Hot glue the cardboard piece with the compact disc pockets to the other piece of fabric covered cardboard along the edges.
Let the glue dry 5 to 10 minutes before placing CD's in your new holder.
