Instructions

  1. Prepare for Assembly

    • 1

Identify all pieces contained in the box. Check pieces against the manufacturer's manual and instructions. Identify any optional parts you may have ordered, such as casters, doors or cabinet bases.

    • 2

Separate shelves from other parts like the base, sides, top and back of the bookcase. Set shelves and shelving pins aside, as you will be assembling the main case first. Identify all screws and other parts.

    • 3

Move base, top, back and sides of the bookcase to their approximate positions. The back of the bookcase should be laying flat with the finished side facing up, and the sides of the bookcase should be on either side of the back. The top and the base should be lying flat on either end of the bookcase.

    Assemble the Bookcase

    • 4

Begin assembling the bookcase with the back and the sides. Make sure the holes for the shelving pins on the sides of the bookcase are facing inward, and the finished sides are facing out. Using your screwdriver and the screws provided by the manufacturer, attach the sides of the bookcase to the back.

    • 5

Install optional parts, such as casters or height adjusting screws to the bottom of the base, if you ordered additional parts. Attach the base of the bookcase to the sides and the back, using your screwdriver and the provided screws.

    • 6

Install the top of the bookcase, making sure that the finished edge is facing outward. Some Techline bookcase models come with inset tops that sit flush with the sides and back of the bookcase. If you have one of these models, follow manufacturer's directions.

    • 7

Turn the bookcase upright, so that it is resting on the base. If you ordered optional parts, like plastic screw covers or lights, install those according to manufacturer's instructions, before you begin placing shelves.

    • 8

Move bookcase into position against a wall or beside other office furniture. It is important to move the bookcase into position while it is empty of shelves, because it will be lighter and easier to move.

    • 9

Measure the height of the shelves you wish to place in your bookcase. If you know that you will be placing certain items on the shelves, such as binders or large books, you may place these items on the base of the bookcase and count how many shelving pin holes they cover, so that you know far apart the shelves need to be.

    • 10

Place the shelving pins provided by the manufacturer in the holes in the sides of the bookcase. Always start with the lowest shelf. Make sure all four pins are placed at the same height.

    • 11

Place the first shelf on the pins. Check that the shelf is level. If you have an item that you will be placing on the shelf, make sure the item will fit by placing it on the shelf.

    • 12

Place pins for the next shelf, and check to make sure the shelf is at the right height and level. Place all shelves in this manner.
