How to Adjust the Tilt on an Office Chair

Sitting in an incorrectly adjusted office chair for eight or more hours a day can make you nearly as sore as standing on your feet all day. For the same reasons you adjust the seat in your car to become more comfortable as you drive, you should adjust your office chair to be as comfortable as possible when you work. Take the time to adjust your chair fully, including the way it tilts, to relieve pressure on your back and lower body.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit on your office chair with your feet flat on the floor. Place your back against the backrest and ensure you have at least two inches of space between the seat pan and the back of your knees. The seat pan is the part of the chair you sit on.

    • 2

Find the tilt adjustment knob for your office chair beneath the seat pan. Push down on the adjustment knob and tilt the seat pan forward, then release the knob. Tilting forward allows the blood to flow through your lower body when working intently on a project.

Push the tilt adjustment down, tilt the seat back and release the knob. Place the office chair in a slightly reclining position while you keep your feet on the floor. This transfers some of your body weight to the backrest and can help you relax.
