How to Adjust the Angle of Herman Miller Desktop Cubicles

Herman Miller, Inc., is widely credited with the invention of the office cubicle and is one of the most widely known office furniture manufacturers. To enhance comfort and productivity, it's important to adjust a cubicle's desktop to the appropriate height and angle for an individual user. Herman Miller's Sense and Envelop desks are adjustable with a minimum of time and effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine which type of Herman Miller desk you're using. A Sense desk has two-segment adjustable legs. An Envelop desk features a flexible "infield" section with a "body pocket" indentation at the front.

    • 2

Clear the desk and move any chairs, filing cabinets or other items underneath the desk.

    • 3

Angle a Sense desktop by adjusting its front legs. Grasp the upper portion of the right front leg, twist it counterclockwise until it loosens, and repeat the process with the left front leg. Slide the desktop down to the desired angle and twist the legs clockwise to lock them in position.

Angle an Envelop desktop by loosening the two thumb screws underneath the work surface, then grasping the dark "infield" portion at the right and left sides, using the "dimples" provided for adjustment. Pull the desktop forward; as it moves forward the surface will also angle down. When the desktop is at the desired angle, tighten the thumbscrews to lock the work surface.
