Spray-paint your filing cabinet if you do not like the color. Remove the drawers and use appliance spray paint in a hue that matches the rest of your decor in the room. Completely cover the sides, top and back of the cabinet.
Use painter’s tape to cover the handles and label slots that are on the drawers. Spray-paint the fronts of the drawers with appliance paint to match the rest of the cabinet.
Paint a custom design on the front of the drawers with small craft brushes and metal craft paint. Create a pattern with stencils if you are not artistically inclined enough to do it freehand.
Attach wallpaper or other decorative paper to the front of the drawers if you want more texture than paint creates. Cut the paper to size and use decoupage medium, found at any craft store, to seal the design on securely.
Create custom labels to slip in the slots on the drawers. Use decorative cardstock and a graphics program and printer, or permanent markers, to make labels that match the rest of your filing cabinet's design.
Add specialty magnets to the sides for an attractive way to display photographs or important notes. Choose magnets that complement your newly decorated filing cabinet.
