Measure the area in the breakfast nook where you hope to place the pew. As the pew can only be cut to fit the area lengthwise, be sure the width of the pew is not too wide to allow for sufficient leg room between the pew and the table.
Use the measurement obtained from step 1 to measure the desired length of the pew. Mark the spot where the pew should be cut with painters tape. Run the tape on the front and back of the pew, beginning at the top of the pew and ending at the bottom edge to help prevent the wood from splintering.
Use a circular saw fitted with a fine-toothed blade to cut the pew, starting at the front side of the pew at the top and working your way slowly to the bottom. Be sure to cut the side of the pew that will be wedged up against the wall unless you are planning on refinishing the edge after cutting.
Sand the cut edge of the pew with a fine-grained sand paper of 280 to 320 to remove any rough areas and splinters.
Wipe the pew down with a damp cloth to remove dust before moving the pew into place.
