How to Set Up China Hutch

A china hutch is usually built in two pieces. The bottom section of the hutch has doors for closed storage. The top section of a china hutch is either open shelves or glass for display purposes. China or other collectibles are artfully arranged. Many china hutches are part of an entire dining room set, matching the table, chairs and often a buffet or sideboard. A china hutch can easily stand alone or be part of another room that calls for a display.

Instructions

    • 1

Secure all the shelves in the top section of the china hutch. If they are detachable, make sure they are sitting on their brackets in a level position. Set the top section of the hutch on the bottom section.

    • 2

Attach the two sections with two 6-inch wood strips, 2-inch by 1/4-inch. You can also use flat metal hangers or connector plates with holes already punched. Screw one end of each strip to the top section and the other ends to the bottom section. The strips will hold the two pieces together.

Check again to make sure the shelves are level and make adjustments if they are not. If the floor is uneven use shims to level the hutch.
