How to Restore a Glass Dining Table

Glass tables come in a wide range of styles. They typically have a metal base with decorative legs. The tables develop scratches from routine use, especially when rougher objects rub across the surface of the glass. Scratches are even caused by metal or glass pots placed on the table without a pad underneath. Restoring the glass table requires removing those scratches.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a dab of brass polish to the glass table. Gently rub the brass polish into the grooves of the scratches with a soft cloth. After the paste dries, apply another coat. Keep adding more polish until the polish fills the scratches and wipe with a soft cloth.

Use a glass repair kit such as those designed to repair scratches in automotive glass. Rub the compound onto the glass tabletop using the provided cloth. The process gently buffs the glass and fills in the scratches, making them seemingly disappear.

    • 3

Rub clear toothpaste over the tabletop, focusing on any scratched areas. Leave the toothpaste on the table overnight, letting it fully dry on the glass table. The following day, wipe the table with a damp cloth to remove any excess toothpaste.

Buff any scratches from the glass with an electric buffer. The buffer has an abrasive pad on the end which rotates quickly and grinds down the table, making the glass smooth and removing any scratches. Only use an electric buffer with protective goggles and gloves.

Wipe down the surface of the table with a damp cloth, removing any glass particles or cleaning products left behind. Use a second damp cloth to wipe down the legs and sides of the table. Run a dry cloth over the table to lightly buff and shine the table.
