Instructions

    • 1

Choose a fabric. The fabric should be durable, stain resistant and easy to clean. Consider using upholstery fabric rather than general-use fabric. Decorating magazine recommends indoor/outdoor fabrics for use on dining chairs because it resists fading and comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns.

    • 2

Turn the dining room chair upside down, and use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the seat from the chair.

    • 3

Remove the staples that hold the fabric to the chair seat with a flat head screwdriver or a pair of wire cutters. Take the original fabric off the chair seat.

    • 4

Use the old fabric as a pattern, and cut your new fabric to the same size.

    • 5

Place the new fabric face down on a flat surface, and then center the chair seat on top of it.

    • 6

Fold the fabric onto the seat and, starting in the center, staple it in place with the staple gun. Make sure to hold the fabric taunt as you staple.

    • 7

Place the covered seat back onto the dining chair, and use the screws to reattach it.
