How to Build a Bar Nook

Transform an unused corner of your family, dining room or living room into a bar nook. Having all the equipment and ingredients to make cocktails, open a bottle of beer or pour a glass of wine while you're away from the kitchen is convenient. It also spreads guests to other areas of your home when entertaining. You don't need to be a handyman to build this bar nook.

Instructions

    • 1

Position a narrow table to the left of your room's corner so there's room to stand behind the table, reach the shelving on one side, and the wine cooler and refrigerator on the other side. The "bartender" needs room to mix drinks and hand them to guests. Guests can also mix themselves a drink if there is no bartender.

    • 2

Put wire mesh freestanding shelving perpendicular to the table with the shelves against the wall. Arrange the bottles of liquor on the center shelf, bar accessories that aren't used too often on the top shelf, and baskets on the next to the bottom shelves. Place bar accessories such as coasters, napkins, toothpicks and stirrers in their own small containers inside the baskets. Place wine bottles on the bottom shelf.

    • 3

Position pre-assembled wood storage cubes on the other side of the table, one on top of the other. The openings should face outward. Place the wine cooler in the bottom cube with the door facing the front of the opening of the cube.

Put the refrigerator in the second cube with the door facing the opening. Access to either shouldn't be blocked by the table. If the cubes seem unsteady to stack, put them side by side instead.

    • 4

Install glass racks onto the wall above the cubes holding the wine cooler and refrigerator. Exactly how you do it and with what equipment would depend on the specific glass rack. Follow the instructions on the rack's package.

Put stemmed glasses into the glass rack so they hang upside down. Put beer and cocktail glasses on the shelves to the right of the table. Store glasses upside down so dust doesn't collect on the inside.

    • 5

Put a cutting board, strainer, knifes and shaker on the table. Thread an S-hook through the wire shelves. Hang hand towels on the hooks. A container of hand wipes or hand sanitizer wipes is a nice touch.

    • 6

Finish the nook with a chalkboard hung on the wall with recipes for the latest trendy drinks. A mixology recipe book helps guests concoct their own cocktails.
