DIY Speaker Stand for a Desk

If you work at your desk for long hours, you may enjoy listening to music with a set of desktop speakers while you're engaged in a task. One problem with small desktop speakers is their height. Because they're low on the desk, they don't achieve the best stereo imaging. Raising the height of the speakers can help, but rather than just piling up some books to set the speakers on, build a set of simple desktop speaker stands.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the 1-foot PVC pipe in half with a hacksaw to create two 6-inch segments.

    • 2

Lay a small plate or other circular object, like a coffee can lid, onto the 1-by-10-inch board. Trace the outline of the plate four times to create four separate circular templates. Cut the circles out with a jig saw. Sand the cut edges of the circles until they're smooth.

    • 3

Center a 2-inch PVC pipe end cap onto a circle, with the closed end of the cap against the wood. Trace around the outside of the end cap and then remove the end cap. Apply construction adhesive to the inside of the marked circle and replace the end cap. Press firmly and hold for several seconds until the adhesive begins to set. Place the circle with the attached end cap aside. Repeat this process with the other three circles and end caps. Let the adhesive dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 4

Push a circle with the end cap onto the end of a cut PVC pipe section until it's firmly attached. Place a second circle onto the other end of the pipe section. Repeat with the other pipe section and the remaining two end caps that are attached to circles.

Paint the stands any color you desire with a gloss-coat spray paint. Allow the paint to dry. Place the completed stands on your desk, with one circular end on the desktop and a speaker on the top circular end.
