Bracing an L-shaped Desk

Properly bracing an L-shaped desk will provide a sturdy base that allows you to work and supports your equipment and supplies as necessary. The best way to brace your desk will depend on the materials and design of the desk, though the same common elements will apply to most L-shaped desks. Some desks can even be anchored to the wall for added stability, though it's not necessary for bracing the desk, especially if you want to be able to move the desk easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the desk upside down so it's resting on its top. Assess the meeting points of the desktop and legs or bottom support posts. Corners will require L brackets, while straight joints will require straight brackets.

    • 2

Position the bracket in place so it's touching both pieces of the desk. Mark the holes with a pencil.

    • 3

Drill starter holes in both pieces of the desk where you marked the spots with a pencil.

    • 4

Replace the brackets and drill the screws in place. There should be a bracket placed on the top and bottom of the legs or supportive posts and a bracket at both ends of the desktop.
