How to Install a Leaning Desk

Leaning desks provide an open look in a room, such as a home office, and often incorporate storage shelves while retaining an open design. This effect is created by the design of the leaning desk, which is two long support boards that lean from a spot two feet out on the floor and attach to the wall at an angle. The supports feature a desk surface in the middle, typically with shelves above. These desks provide work and storage surfaces while requiring minimal installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the studs in the wall using the stud finder by passing the stud finder back and forth across the wall until the light comes on or the unit beeps.

    • 2

Mark the wall at each point where the change occurs. Mark both sides of two studs in the installation area.

    • 3

Place the leaning desk against the wall with its top supports against the wall and its bottom ends on the floor. Adjust the angle until the top and bottom surfaces are flush with the wall and floor.

    • 4

Align at least one of the top ends over a wall stud once the unit is flush. Mark the location on the wall of the pre-drilled screw holes on the desk support.

    • 5

Drill a hole into the wall at the location of the screw holes, using a drill bit that is slightly smaller in diameter than the wood screws you will be using. Make sure that the holes hit a stud. Insert a drywall anchor into the holes that do not reach studs or if only one of the ends can be set against a stud.

    • 6

Reposition the leaning desk against the wall. Set 3-inch or larger wood screws into the holes in the leaning desk and drill them through the pre-drilled wall holes until the leaning desk is tight and the top of the screw heads are even with the wood surface of the leaning desk supports.

    • 7

Repeat to install all screws into the wall.
