Instructions

  1. Table Structure

    • 1

Cut two large boards made of oak, pine, cherry or another hardwood you prefer. The dimensions should be 2 inches thick by 3 feet wide and 5 feet long. These boards will serve as the top of the table.

    • 2

Cut four 4-by-4 pieces of wood to 3 feet high. These boards will serve as the legs of the table.

    • 3

Drill 2 holes with a 1/8-inch drill at a spacing of 1 inch from the corner of each side of the table.

    • 4

Position the 4-by-4 so that the edges of the 4-by-4 lines up with the edges of the table. Using your predrilled holes, drill two 1/4-inch sheet screws through the table top and into the 4-by-4. Complete this process for all four sides.

    • 5

Place the other large board you created from Step 1 on the floor and then place the assembled table with legs on top of the board so that the legs are sticking straight up in the air.

    • 6

Place a 3-inch sheet screw every two feet along the length of the bottom half of the table top. This secures the two large boards together and hides the tops of the screws you created when putting the legs on.

    • 7

Sand the entire table with a 250 grit fine sandpaper to smooth the table out. If you have a power sander, you should use it to save time.

    Drawers

    • 8

Create a base for the drawers by cutting a 1/2-inch plywood sheet. The dimensions should be 12 inches wide by 20 inches long.

    • 9

Create a side for the drawer by cutting a 1/2-inch plywood sheet to the dimensions of 5 inches wide by 20 inches long.

    • 10

Glue the side of the drawer to the base using wood glue. When you are finished, you should have an L-shaped piece of wood.

    • 11

Create an interior drawer by assembling a 10-inch wide by 16-inch long piece of plywood. Cut the sides to equal 4 -inches wide by 16 inches long. The back of the drawer must equal 4 inches wide by 10 inches long. Assemble the pieces with wood glue and then hammer small nails into the edges of the plywood to secure the drawer.

    • 12

Screw the drawer rails to the lengthwise side of the drawer so that the base of the rail is 2 inches high. Screw the other side of the rail to the interior of the drawer cabinet at 2 1/2 inches high.

    • 13

Glue the cabinet created in Steps 1 to 3 to the interior side of the table. Wait 24 hours, then slide the drawer in place.
