How to Install Kensington Keyboard Drawers

If your computer desk space is cluttered and cramped, you can install a Kensington keyboard tray. The tray is mounted underneath the counter top and holds the keyboard into position. This will free up much needed desk space and allow you to pull your monitor closer to the edge of the table to avoid squinting and sore eyes. A keyboard tray will allow you to hide the keyboard when not in use so your office will look clean and organized.

Instructions

    • 1

Mount the drawer slides that came with the kit to the keyboard tray using the screws provided and a power drill. There are two slides on the tray, one on each end. Each slide requires two 1/4-inch sheet metal screws, which are included with the kit.

    • 2

Place the brackets onto the drawer slides at the desired location. This allows the keyboard tray to be mounted 1 1/2 inches to 3 inches down from the counter top. Place the brackets in the suitable position. Attach them using the 5/8-inch screws provided and a power drill.

    • 3

Place the keyboard tray underneath the counter top. Center the keyboard tray from side to side. The keyboard tray should be mounted flush to the front of the counter top so that it is easily pulled from the slides.

    • 4

Fasten the keyboard tray to the bottom of the counter top using a power drill and the screws provided with the kit. Place three screws in each of the four mounting brackets to ensure a tight joint.
